Mobile Phone Tour Guides Are Everywhere

It doesn’t have much new, but Wired News has a short roundup about a variety of mobile phone walking tourguide offerings — some of which we’ve discussed before. Unfortunately, reading between the lines, it doesn’t sound like these are getting that much usage. The only one with a comment on uptake simply said it’s been “encouraging” — which actually doesn’t sound so encouraging. That’s what people say when things aren’t up to the level they expected. The major problem may be simply in getting people to know these tours exist. Also, when people are tourists, they’re often with a group of friends or family, and the idea of all of them walking around listening to their mobile phones may not be quite as appealing.
