Wi-LAN Notifies IEEE Of Its Intent To Set Up A WiMAX Tollbooth

Pay up, everyone! That seems to be the message from Wi-LAN, who tries to spin the story as if they’re doing something for the good of everyone by setting up a tollbooth and telling anyone involved in the WiMAX business that it’s time to pay them a license fee. The story is that they’ll give anyone what’s known as RAND (reasonable and non-discriminatory) patent licensing terms — which is better than unreasonable and discriminatory licensing, but still is likely to make WiMAX much more expensive.
