More Mobile Phones Than People In Sweden

Oh, the handset makers must be thrilled right now. A few years ago there was a lot of talk about ways to convince everyone they needed more than a single mobile phone as a way of growing their market. The handset makers went around trying to convince people they needed a phone for work, and a phone for fun, and maybe a third phone just to be different. While we had thought those promotions had pretty much gone away, they appear to have taken hold in Sweden, where a new report claims there are now more mobile phones than people. Actually, it’s even stranger than that… it’s not just more phones than people, but more service plans than people. So, it’s not just a case of multiple phones with users flipping in and out sim cards. People are apparently using different services — but in an expected (if somewhat inefficient) way: one for work and one for home.
