Nextel Testing Automatic Tier Bump

In an effort to not piss off customers who go over their allotted plan minutes and incur ridiculously high per-minute charges, Nextel is experimenting with a plan that automatically knocks users up a tier if they go over their minutes. While users may not like the fact that they’re suddenly in a tier they didn’t think they were in – that has to be better than discovering that your thirty minutes over are going to run you an extra $100 or whatever it is that the carriers like to charge these days for overage minutes. Still, I’d think that this needs to be clearly communicated with users for it to work properly. Otherwise users are going to be angry to find out they’ve been bumped without their knowledge – even if it saves them money.
