Music Sales Up In The US
from the well,-look-at-that dept
This is a whole lot of nothing, but it turns out that music sales in the US were noticeably up in the first quarter of this year. Of course, when it comes to reasons why, you get totally different interpretations from different people. Unfortunately, the RIAA believes that their “education campaign” (suing everyone) has been effective. A much more likely explanation is a combination of a few factors, mainly (a) the economy is starting to get better and (b) there were a couple of strong album releases that targeted a more diverse audience than the typical latest teeny bopper project. Having legitimate download stores probably didn’t hurt matters, though, it’s unclear how much it actually helped. Of course, since the RIAA is so focused on the downloading thing, this means they’re going to keep on suing, despite increasing evidence that downloads don’t harm industry sales.
