Virgin Mobile To Launch In Canada

As expected Virgin Mobile will try to continue their UK and North American MVNO successes with a Virgin Mobile cellular service launch in Canada. Virgin will partner with carrier Bell Mobility to provide the network. Techdirt first covered this story on November 6, when the Canada’s national newspaper, The Globe And Mail suggested that Microcell was likely to be the carrier of choice. At that time, I was surprised that Microcell should be in the deal, and explained in the comments section that Bell Mobility was a far more likely candidate than Microcell. Now that we know Bell is the partner, we can almost certainly expect the MVNO to look very much like the US operation, with the same terminals, content, call centers, etc. In fact, this could possibly end up being the best Canada-USA roaming service the mobile industry offers. Hope those guys are up on their French! Vive le Quebec Mobile!
