Australian Music Industry Hiding Good News About Album Sales

from the shouldn't-the-data-be-useful-for-something... dept

The funniest thing about the recording industry’s struggles against file sharing was their insistence that file sharing had to be harming the industry. They simply refuse to believe anyone who says otherwise – and certainly wouldn’t let anything like facts get in the way. That’s probably a good part of the reason why Australia’s recording industry won’t admit they sold more albums last year than ever before. They will, however, trumpet the fact that sales of CD singles are down, but neglect to mention that fewer singles were released – and the various music download stores probably do take away some of the market for single sales. As intelligent business people (perhaps a stretch…), shouldn’t the recording industry execs be more interested in what the data actually tells them, rather than sticking to what they’ve been saying all along?
