One Phishing Scam Down, Plenty To Go
from the yeah,-that'll-help dept
The FTC is thrilled today that they’ve been able to track down a single phishing scammer who sent out fake messages pretending to be from AOL and PayPal telling people their accounts had been canceled and telling them to go to a certain website and fill out specific info to reinstate the account. Of course, the guy ran that website and used the info for identity theft. This is the popular scam-of-the-moment, and tracking down one guy involved in it is unlikely to make much of a dent, but at least the FTC is trying to do something.

May not get every one of them, but they can take them down one at a time and with severe penalties on this type of a crime may make people think twice before trying it.
