I Learned It From Watching You, Son!

from the ah,-technology... dept

The MPAA has commissioned a survey concerning parents opinions on file sharing, and they were apparently surprised that 40% of parents didn’t realize it was illegal. Of course, that’s misleading. Only some downloading is “illegal”. There are people who legitimately put their content on file sharing networks and encourage people to share them, but the entertainment industry likes to ignore that part. At the same time, they also mention that approximately one-third of parents learned how to use file sharing systems from their kids. Of course, instead of thinking about ways to embrace the fact that so many people want to tell family members about such services (great viral marketing), they instead see this as a reason to continue their “education” policies – such as by lying to schoolkids.
