Sony Launches The Smart Display Microsoft Just Dumped
This one is a bit confusing. Just weeks ago, Microsoft announced that they were ditching their “Smart Display” offering, which was a wireless monitor that could display what was on a computer somewhere else nearby via a WiFi connection. The device never received much attention, and Microsoft has read the tea leaves and realized the market doesn’t want the product. So, oddly enough, Sony has just announced a product that sounds nearly identical. It’s a 12.1 inch LCD display with a WiFi connection that can display content from a base station. The big difference, though, is that Sony is trying to tie this product up as an entertainment screen. That is, instead of accessing a remote computer, they’re selling it as a way to watch TV or DVDs as you travel around your house.
