Amazon Investigated For Shipping CDs Overseas

from the black-market-Amazon dept

A friend of mine once pointed out to me that, on certain CDs that are quite difficult or expensive to get in the US, if you log in to Amazon’s UK site, you can get them much cheaper. Of course, it looks like some folks in the UK do the same for getting overseas CDs and now Amazon is being investigated for breaking copyright law by shipping overseas CDs to the UK. The complaint here, is that Amazon is importing cheaper versions of CDs from Asia, undercutting local prices. While the court may very well rule against them, this is basic arbitrage that is happening on a global scale thanks to the easy exchange of both information and product across global borders. It’s going to become increasingly difficult for anyone to try to sell the same exact product for different prices in different markets – no matter what the courts decide.
