What Comes After 3G? Um… 3.5G!

Now, we like the folks over at the ARC Group, so we say this in a nice way, but putting out a report saying that 3.5G is what comes after 3G isn’t that complicated (though, it may mean it’s time for us to come up with a new graphical icon to go with our 3.5G posts). Basically, they say that once everyone moves to 3G, carriers will spend some time trying to upgrade and squeeze more out of the 3G systems before moving on to a full technology shift to 4G systems (expected around 2010). No surprise there. They also point out that there will be more integration issues with WiFi and other WLAN technologies – as WLAN and cellular technologies will co-exist, but need to cooperate.
