Oklahoma May Drop WorldCom Suit

from the probably-for-the-best dept

It’s beginning to look like the state of Oklahoma may end up dropping charges against former WorldCom CEO, Bernie Ebbers, after a judge refused to delay the proceedings. The state’s reason for wanting the delay was not to interfere with federal proceedings against other former WorldCom execs – but if that were the case, why didn’t they just wait and file the charges at a later date? Again, it’s looking like they rushed into this case a bit too quickly. It never made sense that Oklahoma filed these criminal charges while a federal investigation was still ongoing – and this seems like more evidence that it was a grandstanding move to get some publicity. Update: The charges have been dropped, but they plan to refile them almost immediately just to push back the date.
