FCC Says OK On Landline-To-Mobile Portability

Nothing like waiting until the last minute, huh? With exactly two weeks to go until number portability goes into effect, the FCC has officially declared that landline numbers must also be transferable to mobile phones and vice versa where possible. The landline carriers are complaining of course, because the “where possible” is not a very large area, meaning they’re a hell of a lot more likely to lose customers than to gain them – though, that would probably be true in any case. As you might guess, this could help spur people to ditch their landlines altogether. Also, worth noting is that all of these number portability rules only go into effect for the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the US on November 24th. The rest of the country has to wait until next year.
