Nokia Reminds Carriers That Customers Will Use MMS For Sports

For quite some time, I’ll admit that about the only thing I used WAP for was to check the latest baseball scores. I’m apparently not alone. However, Nokia decided that carriers weren’t convinced of just how obsessed some folks are with sports information and just what lengths they’re willing to go through to get that info. So, they conducted a study showing that (surprise, surprise) one of the major early uses of MMS will be for sports messages. Of course, it remains to be seen just what people are willing to pay for in terms of sports info, and how much they’ll pay. Scores and news seem to make sense, but that’s easy enough over WAP or SMS. The most obvious thing is video highlights, but already we hear things about voice messages from sports stars that seem kind of pointless. The trick is offering things that people actually value.
