Japanese Courts In Search Of 100 Intellectual Property Experts

from the better-than-nothing... dept

The Japanese judicial system, realizing that intellectual property lawsuits are often fairly complex to understand, is now looking for 100 experts on intellectual property to help judges understand the nature of intellectual property in cases that come before them. They’re also going to send the judges to think tanks and conferences around the world to get them up to speed on intellectual property issues. Of course, it’s good that they’re going out to get educated, but since some “intellectual property experts” can be so bizarrely wrong in their understanding of intellectual property, the results of this experiment may depend on just what sort of intellectual property experts they’re looking for.
