US Invasion Of Geeky Japanese Toilets
from the a-perfect-storm dept
I’ve heard plenty of stories of the magnificent high tech toilets in Japan and how they have a habit of “confusing” Western visitors. Well, now they’ll be able to confuse people here too, as one of the largest high tech toilet makers in Japan, Toto, is getting ready to bring them to the US. The article includes plenty of typical amusing stories about confused travelers trying to figure out what the random buttons do, and occasionally being a bit surprised. About all you need to know about that is this lovely quote: “So there I am, sitting on this sleek-looking loo, idly punching the buttons on this little panel next to the toilet, and all of a sudden my bum is right smack in the middle of the perfect storm. Things are spraying, sloshing, squirting and swooshing. The theme from Jaws suddenly starts playing in my head…” I’m sure non-traveling Americans can’t wait for their own such experiences.

Spew and Stew
I can just see the lawsuits coming — scared/annoyed customer leaves toilet unflushed, then the stew sprays all over the next customer.

Re: It's like the Simsons Episode...
I have had personal experiences in Japan, but I like even better the Simpson’s episode where Homer watches the toilet and in awe exclaims “They’re yeeeeeears ahead of us!” Later Lisa comes out of the bathroom stating the the toilet recommended some near-by places to eat.
