70% Don't Know What WiFi Hotspots Are

The Register, in their usual misleading delightful way, is reporting that 70% of folks in the UK don’t know what WiFi hotspots are, and thus, anyone building WiFi hotspots must be doomed. This is curious logic. Was everyone expected to know about WiFi hotspots immediately? I don’t think anyone thought that it was a universal thing that suddenly everyone already knew about. There is some education involved, which is part of the reason Intel has gone absolutely crazy with their Centrino advertising (though, admittedly, the confusion they’re creating between “Centrino” and “WiFi” may not be healthy).
