Online Dating Virtually Irresistible To Some Married Folks

from the can't-resist dept

Last year, we pointed out that more couples were blaming the internet for their divorce, and now we have an idea why. A new study shows that some married folks have trouble staying away from online affairs. Many don’t consider it a form of cheating, and simply see it as a way to relive the “fun” of flirting, without actually doing anything. Of course, many spouses do not see it that way, and consider it a form of betrayal when they find out their significant other is online flirting away with someone else. However, there are some who let their spouses know they’re having an “online affair” – though, that doesn’t necessarily make the spouse any happier. The study also found that a fairly high percentage (26 out of 86 people) eventually met someone in person who they had been flirting with online – and 24 of those people ended up having a real-life affair. Of course, while it’s easy to put blame on the internet for these sorts of things, it seems pretty clear that the problem is in the relationship of the cheating partner – and the internet just made it easier for them to act.
