Are Camera-Phones Good News Or Bad For The Photography Industry?

Just as the photography industry has come to terms with the rise in digital photography, they suddenly have to start thinking again. The Economist is wondering how camera phones will impact the photography industry. With current digital cameras, the industry has focused on helping people get prints made of the images. However, with a camera phone, you can easily send your photos to other phones or to email addresses on computers. Some say this could be good for the industry, since more people will be taking photographs more often – and they’re going to need prints. Others say that last part is a big assumption, and the need for “prints” may be going away. About the only thing people can agree on is that no one is really sure how people are going to end up using camera phones, and there are going to be plenty of surprises.
