Europe's Largest Wi-Fi Hotspot Goes Live
Over in the Netherlands, the University of Twente is hyping up the fact that they’ve launched (what they believe is) the largest WiFi hotspot in Europe. It covers 140 hectares with 650 access points. It sounds like a similar set up to the ones that many US universities have installed. What I found most interesting, though, is this desire to promote being the “largest” hotspot – and wondering if that sort of of attention can help drive additional hotspot development. Why not have some sort of contest trying to get people to announce the “largest” free hotspot to promote more free hotspot access?

Irony in Twente
Funny that the university used the dinosaur crew to to build the network. The first 802.11b start anywhere (No Wires Needed now the Wi-Fi group at Intersil) came out of U of Twente.
