China's 3G Drive Prompts Industry Maneuvering
While there have been some questions about whether or not China’s own 3G standard, TD-SCDMA, would ever get off the ground (as many of China’s own mobile phone companies have been experimenting with other 3G standards), it now looks like some companies will be deploying TD-SCDMA networks in China. Of course, it still remains to be seen how well they work, and whether or not consumers are willing to buy into the standard. Many people consider the technology inferior – and it’s a few steps behind W-CDMA and CDMA2000 in terms of how “battle tested” the systems are. However, it is still early in the race, it’s apparently too early to count TD-SCDMA entirely out.
