Beware Of Mystery Web Direcoty Fees On Your Phone Bill

from the public-service-announcement dept

Ah… internet scams. The latest is a company (or, actually, four companies owned by the same mother-son combo) that is sneaking small charges onto phone bills. Since most phone bills are confusing enough, with all their random charges and fees, many people don’t notice when they’re being charged $3 or $4 a month to be listed in some random web directory they didn’t ask to be a part of. The companies’ owner insists they don’t practice “cramming”, but they’re now being sued or investigated all over the country. Everyone that the reporter asked (who they found on the “directory” site) had no idea they were being charged for such a service that they didn’t want.
