SMS Quells Rumor Of Quarantine In Hong Kong

So, it turns out that not only did the news of SARS first spread by SMS text messaging, but now Derek has written in with a story saying that the government in Hong Kong this past weekend used SMS messages to quell rumors of a city-wide quarantine. The city government asked the six major wireless carriers in Hong Kong to send messages to their 6 million users to combat the panic that was going around in response to the rumors. Certainly a very impressive use of mobile messaging to get the word out – from a government, no less.
