3G Launches With A Whimper, Not A Bang
Here’s a pretty good analysis of 3’s 3G launch, saying that there’s not much there (despite all the hype and bluster). Specifically, they point out that new (expensive) technologies are generally focused at business people, who have the money to spend, and later, as economies of scale come into play, they trickle down to consumers. However, in this case, the 3G offering doesn’t really have much to offer business people. There are things for consumers… but the price is too high for consumers. The coverage also isn’t very good. As the article admits, coverage will get better, and the offerings for business users will certainly show up. However, the initial (loud) launch doesn’t seem to offer very much.
