Cell Phone Market Surprises Even Itself
The numbers coming out showing how wireless carriers in the US did last year are looking surprisingly good. While most expectations were that subscriber growth would be flat, across the major carriers there was an average growth rate of about 10%. Handset sales also increased about 6%. The article suggests that people buying new color handsets helped create this unexpected growth – showing, once again, that a “little thing” like a color screen can influence a buying decision much more than the topics the wireless carriers tend to focus on (data rates, specific network technologies, etc.).
