Miss Your Soap Episode? Download It
from the closer-to-getting-it... dept
In a move that shows that at least someone in the entertainment industry is realizing that there might be something to this whole “internet distribution” thing, Sony is going to let people
download commercial-free episodes of two different soap operas for a small fee. While it’s difficult to say if it will be a success, it’s a step in the right direction – realizing that “time shifting” abilities are what consumers want. What isn’t discussed in the article, though, is if the shows will have crazy copy-protection included, which will make the service much less compelling.

$1.99 per show! Ack! I wonder if they’d sell the distribution rights to me for 50c/show. I’d love to build up a business distributing shows at 99c per show. That seems like the appropriate price point to me as well.
For reference, I am aware of bandwidth costs. I did the math, and they’d make a good deal of money every month even at $1/kbps/month.
Re: No Subject Given
Hmmm… how many episodes do you have to buy before it would have just been cheaper to get a Tivo?
PS: Rhetorical question, please don’t bother to do the math.
