Intel Targets GSM And GPRS Networks

Next week Intel is going to announce new chips for GSM/GPRS devices that it hope will give market leader a Texas Instruments a run for its money. Intel hopes the the new mobile chips, code-named Manitoba, will help them replicate the success of they’ve had in the PDA market with the XScale chips. Given Intel’s relationship with Microsoft, I’m sure Manitoba will chips will be used in future Windows Smartphone and PocketPC Phone Edition devices. And at some point I’m sure we’ll see Manitoba chips borrow from the upcoming Centrino products and incorporate Wi-Fi support.
