Accident Underscores Lack of Cellphone Tracking

The New York Times has an article about city officials being upset that NYC has done little to build a 911 system that would track the location of cell phone calls, after some teenagers died in a boating accident last week. They had called 911 with their cell phone, but the police couldn’t figure out where they were. Of course, some argue that they wouldn’t have been able to rescue the kids in time, anyway, but that doesn’t mean a system shouldn’t be in place. Similar tracking systems are already found in Rhode Island and Houston, but NYC says they’re at least 3 years away from implementing such a solution.
