Will MMS Lead The 3G Way?
The debate over the popularity of MMS continues… This article, written by a guy who recently said that 3G wasn’t catching on because there weren’t many phones or applications that made use of 3G, says that now more handset makers are shipping MMS-enabled phones which should help drive demand. Of course, they still need to convince end users as to why they need to upgrade. While I still believe in the possibilities of MMS, I don’t think most people see the natural progression that those in the wireless industry want to see: “well, if people like sending text, they’ll love sending pictures.” Text and pictures are used for very different purposes – and while sending pictures is a “nice to have,” most people think sending text is good enough. Until some more applications come out that really leverage MMS to a different level, people just won’t see the reason for an expensive upgrade.
