AT&T Wireless Launches Short Term Service

While it doesn’t appear to be a full-blown MVNO like Virgin Mobile, AT&T Wireless has decided that people who don’t want lengthy mobile phone contracts are an underserved market. They’ve now announced the launch of a new brand, GoPhone, to offer mobile service without lenghty contracts. Of course, it’s unclear how much demand there really is in the US for such plans. So far, Virgin Mobile hasn’t really taken off in the US. Also, the various pre-paid plans that also don’t require long term contracts, which are popular elsewhere, don’t seem to be gaining too much traction either.
