Japanese Show Declining Interest In Video Games

from the trend-or-just-a-blip? dept

dorpus writes in with a link to the annoyingly registration-required LA Times about how there’s some evidence that there’s a declining interest in video games in Japan. It’s a bit tough to tell if this is a bigger trend, or a small blip being made into something big. The story includes a couple of anecdotes from people who seem to have grown out of their video game addiction, as well as a few stats, that show a fairly small decline in sales. Part of the problem is just that people grow out of video game interest at a certain age. While there are plenty of adults who still like video games, that percentage if definitely smaller than kids who like video games. Meanwhile, looking at the demographics of Japan, shows that there are fewer young people – making for a fairly simple explanation for the decline.
