Police Nab Fugitive In eBay Fraud Case

from the and-so-it-goes dept

Two and a half years ago we had the story of a guy who made a ton of news by trying to sell a painting he hinted was really by Richard Diebenkorn on eBay. The sale attracted a lot of interest, because there was a lot of debate over whether or not the painting really was by Diebenkorn. Eventually, it was was determined to be a fraud, and the guy who posted the auction was also indicted for bidding up the price to make it seem like legitimate art collectors believed it was authentic. It was considered one of the biggest online frauds at the time. While there were three people involved in the scam, one of the guys fled, and was just captured after being pulled over for having a broken windshield.
