People Hate Pop Ups
from the gee,-what-a-shock dept
In case you hadn’t noticed, most people can’t stand pop up ads. A new study confirms the obvious, telling us that 78.3% of people find them “very annoying”. I’m surprised, actually, at how low this number is. The study also found that people didn’t mind interstitial ads so much, but I’m guessing this is just because they’re not nearly as popular among advertisers these days. If every website you go to requires you to click through an interstitial, I’m sure people would find them alomst as annoying as pop ups. Either way, this is some evidence going against idiot marketers, like the guy at Orbitz, who claims that people like pop ups.

Easy to deal with
What I find amusing is that pop-ups are only a problem for MSIE users. The gecko-based browsers including Mozilla and Netscape (starting with 7.01) provide the option of disabling pop-ups, as does Opera.
The only reason that pop-ups work at all is because 95% of all Web surfers are now using MSIE.
