The True American Addiction? Computer Solitaire

from the can't-get-rid-of-it dept

I’ve always been pretty good about not playing too many simple games on my computer, but every once in a while I’ll pop open a game that comes with the machine and waste a few minutes. Clearly, I’m not alone. Here’s a somewhat tongue-in-cheek column suggesting that the biggest drain on American productivity is Microsoft’s solitaire game and its “evil twin” Free Cell. The problem with these games is that it’s easy to start and say you’ll just play one hand, but then you get into this mode where you have to keep playing until you win.

I haven’t, actually. I think I just haven’t had the time to look into joining one. I’m not even sure how the online leagues work, to be honest, or how much time they involve. It would be fun, though, to try to make trades with real live people, instead of trying to outwit the (extraordinarily good) trading AI.

Maybe we can set up a Techdirt online league. 🙂

No Subject Given

I searched out this thread because I am seriously (seriously) worried about the time I spend playing computer card games. I’m surprised that everywhere I look on the net everyone’s fairly relaxed about their addiction to these games. I’m not. I find it alarming. I let my 1 year-old daughter cry for 10 minutes while I finished a game. It’s like heroin. Has anyone got a solution?
