Engineering Careers Shorter Than Football Careers

from the ouch dept

It’s doom and gloom time for engineers, according to this article talking about how many engineers are changing careers after layoffs or who are just sick of their bad work conditions. Many are frustrated that in order to stay in engineering you need to constantly learn the latest engineering fads. This is the same argument that seems to come up every few years, and I don’t worry about it as much as some people do. There are still plenty of engineers I know who do it because they love it. They like the challenges (and that includes staying up on the latest things) that engineering provides. It’s the people who don’t really like it, and who got into only because it paid well who are complaining now. It just goes back to the standard saying that you should do what you enjoy.
