A Different Opinion On Why Online Clothing Shopping Is A Hit

from the mass-customization-rears-its-head-again dept

We were just talking about how online shopping for clothing has taken off, saying that women were driving those sales as they became more used to online shopping. However, this article in Wired Magazine suggests a different take. It’s the story of a guy who was hit up by Lands’ End to send in his measurements for a pair of pants. Once he ordered the pants and found they fit, he now relies on them for most of his pants. They know his size, he knows they fit, and he’s willing to pay a premium to avoid having to go to the mall to buy pants that probably don’t fit as well anyway. The writer suggests that Lands’ End is targeting male shoppers who don’t like clothing shopping, and are willing to pay a little extra to avoid going to the store completely.
