Sybase Plans To Get AvantGo

AvantGo was one of the early “success” stories of the PDA world. For a while, it seemed like everyone who had a Palm Pilot had to have AvantGo to download all the webpages they wanted to look at onto the device. They, like so many companies, ran into problems when it came time to figure out a way to make money. The company has been struggling recently, and their CEO left a few months back. Now, they’ve decided to sell the company to Sybase for $38 million. Sybase will use it as a way to improve their device related offerings. AvantGo will be combined with their iAnywhere Solutions subsidiary, which creates solutions for handling data on handheld and wireless devices.
