Good News/Bad News For Tech Workers

from the take-your-pick dept

Two studies that are probably of interest to technology workers paints a mixed picture of the job market out there. First, it appears that last quarter the number of IT hirings was higher than the number of IT layoffs. That’s a good sign. The same report found that IT hiring managers expect to need to hire plenty more people in the next year – but they’ve been saying that all throughout the downturn, so that’s not a very good metric. However, another study points out that these newly hired techs are probably receiving significantly lower wages. The predictions are that IT wages will continue to decline next year. All in all, though, I imagine that most out-of-work techies would prefer to have a job earning a little less than they’re used to, than no job at all.
