Yahoo Launches Web Hosting For Small Businesses
from the why? dept
Over the past few years plenty of companies have suddenly decided that they, too, want to be in the web hosting business. Most of those companies quickly realized it’s very difficult to make money doing so, and bailed out. There are some companies that are doing okay in that world by focusing exclusively on offering top notch service to their hosting clients – but every company that sees it as an “add-on” to their business seems to struggle with it. That’s why it’s a bit surprising to hear that Yahoo is now thinking they can do it as well. I guess it’s sort of the stage in between their Geocities personal sites and their Yahoo Stores e-commerce sites. I can see some small businesses using it, but it seems like a highly competitive business with very little that will let Yahoo distinguish itself from the competition.

I thought they had this before
It may be a relaunch, or maybe this is a new version for small businesses, or may no longer be a rebranded service.
I see that servers.yahoo.com is still there, though, which has to be one of the weirdest services they offer.
