Inching Closer To 3G

3G isn’t taking the world by storm as carriers predicted a few years back, but it is moving forward. Hutchison 3G, or just 3, is by far the loudest and consequently the the most watched 3G player. Their latest baby step forward is placing the first person-to-person 3G video call. In contrast the world’s largest carrier, Vodafone, is taking a much more cautious approach and is practically underselling their upcoming Japanese 3G launch. While H3G is pushing the multimedia benefits of 3G, Vodafone is emphasizing international roaming for Japanese business users. Given the shaky status of 3G technology, both carriers are sure to encounter a number of hiccups going forward, but Vodafone is clearly setting itself to lose less face as problems arise.
