Microsoft Wants Your Cellphone

from the don't-they-want-everything? dept

The latest Salon article is all about Microsoft’s efforts to push their way into the mobile phone operating system business. It compares what they’ve done in other areas, and suggests that the various mobile phone makers and service providers are a lot more wary of Microsoft – and don’t want to offer the same Microsoft look & feel. The article quotes Opera’s Jon von Tetzchner about how people want to customize their mobile phones – and Microsoft is pushing a more rigid model. Tetzchner believes that he’s got an advantage over Microsoft on the mobile browser front by not only having better technology, but by being a lot more customizable. However, he also points out that the most important selling point he has is simply that he is not Microsoft.
