Nokia And Matsushita Team Up For Wireless Consumer Electronics

Nokia and Matsushita announced today a partnership that is designed to let the two companies experiment with creating consumer electronics devices with wireless capabilities. At this point, the two companies sound like they’re just experimenting, but it will be interesting to see what they come up with. The work is all being done by Matsushita, with Nokia just letting them use their technology. After a year, they’ll step back and evaluate how the program is going. Clearly, over time, the trend is to make sure that all consumer electronics products are somehow connected and can be remotely controlled. It still remains to be seen what technologies will win out, and what form they’ll take. It would seem that, initially, wireless technologies like WiFi and Bluetooth make a lot more sense than cellular technology for home automation.
