It seems that there’s a bit of a cultural backlash these days to all sorts of “convergence” products. While there are certainly those of us on the “gadget freak” side of the fence who think it’s kind of neat when our laundry machine also checks our email, many people just want simple, cheap devices that do their specified feature well. Companies, though, say that consumers do want lots of features – if they only knew what those proper features were. A lot of the convergence gadgets are really experiments to see if consumers bite. The extra features are also useful in convincing people that there otherwise functional gadget is now obsolete and needs to be replaced by one with more features.
