Qualcomm Extends Global Chip Line

Last we posted a story about Qualcomm’s MSM6300 CDMA/GSM chipset which allows roaming between CDMA and GSM networks. This week the company announced the follow up to that chip with the MSM6500. It too allows global roaming but adds support for CDMA2000 1xEV-DO, which supports speeds up to 2.4Mbps. There is more to these chips than just global roaming, which is a lucrative but niche market. Qualcomm simply wants a piece of the GSM handset market.
