Breeders' Cup Betting Scandal

from the a-little-hack-for-a-fraternity-brother dept

It does seem like the type of thing that a bunch of fraternity brothers would dream up, but how many would actually go through with it? Apparently, Chris Han, who had a job working at Autotote, the company that handles racing wagers for OTB, hacked into the system, and changed the information on tickets his fraternity buddies bought such that they won over $3 million. The winning results immediately raised suspicions and were never paid out. Apparently, though, this could have been going on for quite some time. The article linked to here describes what happened in detail and shows the only reason they got caught was because a longshot won – meaning that all six winning tickets came from the same location.
