Nokia Refreshes Handsets

Talk about timing. The same day we post a story of the potential threat to Nokia from Asian camera phones, Nokia announced a slew of new handsets and accessories. The new Nokia’s emphasize color screens, Java and MMS. Three of the models are even tri-band meaning they will make it to US, either through carriers directly or through other channels. We’re glad to see more MMS, camera and tri-band support, but Bluetooth is still sparse. Only the super high-end dual-band 8910i and the mysterious N-Gage gaming device have BT. With Microsoft, Apple and other big players getting behind BT, why is Nokia holding back? MMS phones should be able to connect wirelessly with PCs to exchange pictures and sync PIM info. Seperately the N-Gage is an interesting move. Nokia gaming is more than just about Snake now.
