How Does The Future Happen?
from the it-takes-a-damn-long-time dept
A Newsweek reporter wonders about the process it takes for a product to go from the idea stage to the point where it’s available to everyone. He mentions three different technologies he saw recently that are all in the early stages. He sees the benefits of all three, but realizes it may take quite a bit of time before they are really being used. I wish he had spent more time discussing the various factors why these technologies are often very slow to reach the market – as that’s more interesting than just listing three technologies we’ve all been reading about already (books on demand, programmable price tags, and 3D TV). All three have some interesting hurdles they need to overcome before we start seeing them on a regular basis.
