Virus Writer's Conviction Upheld

A Dutch man who was sentenced to 150 hours of community service for writing the Anna Kournikova virus has had the sentence upheld by an appeals court. He had been hoping to be declared not guilty. It seems his argument was that he was so stupid that he didn’t realize the virus might do what a virus does and replicate across the internet. However, the fact that the guy had thousands of sample virus code on his computer suggests he had at least a bit more than a passing interest in the idea of computer viruses.
