Palm Plays Catch Up with PocketPC

Palm has just announced two new business oriented handhelds under its new Tungsten product line. Both the Tungsten T and Tungsten W feature color screens and ARM-based chips. The Tungsten T uses Graffiti text input and includes integrated Bluetooth support. The Tungsten W has a keyboard and includes a GSM/GPRS radio. Palm has deals with AT&T Wireless, Rogers AT&T, Vodafone and SingTel to distribute the W. While both models are new for Palm, they aren’t earth shattering, in fact Palm is playing catch up to its own licensees and PocketPC licensees. More interesting than the devices is the fact that we’re starting to see Palm OS 5 trickle to market. We’re anxious to see how it stacks up against PocketPC in terms of multimedia and network apps. Update: Check out infoSync’s in-depth looks at the T and W.
